Fife pupils showcase their rainbow messages of thanks in new video

They used their creativity to make colourful rainbows using paper, food, chalks and paint which have been shown in a video, featuring the 1980s pop song ‘True Colours’ by Cyndi Lauper – sung by S5 pupil, Cara Hayes.

Michaela Duckett, music teacher, who came up with the idea said: “I asked all the pupils who had put up an image of a rainbow somewhere in their house to send me photographs of them – I think there were over 60 in the video.

“I just had to find the right song – one that was appropriate that used the word rainbow in it and there were loads of different options.

“I chose True Colours because, as well as being about a rainbow, the words in the song are about not giving up and persevering when times are tough.”Michaela asked S5 student, Cara, to sing the vocals.

She said: “She wanted to record the song with a bit of reverb so she sang it in her bathroom!”

While the video was made on a shoe-string using free editing software, Michaela said it showed just how creative the pupils are.

“As well as making posters they even made rainbows out of food,” she added.

“They also used chalks and paints to present their rainbows in really creative ways.

“It is such a strange, difficult time so it is important for the young people to see all their friends at school are in the same boat, showing support with them.”

She added: “The feedback has been fantastic and there was one really nice comment – someone said there is hope in our youth – and it just really sums it up perfectly.

“The video shows the children showing their gratitude and they understand there are some people who are doing really difficult jobs in a difficult time just now.

“They want to offer them their support.”
