A new video produced by broadcast media students at Fife College which promotes lifelong learning, has just been launched, despite the constraints of lockdown.

It features a mature student in their 50s who thought that he was too old to to go to back into education, but signs up to pursue his dream of higher learning.

The story is based on one of the team members, who has spent the last 10 years performing in various roles in front of the camera, and is now learning to work from behind it.

Bruce Henderson (55), who appears in the video sporting a ‘lockdown beard’, said: "It was a bit of a shock to the system going back to college to start with, but it has been an excellent experience. I have learned so many things that used to be a complete mystery to me.

“Working alongside such a diverse group of students has been really positive. We all bring something to the mix and I think the video shows what you can do.”

The team, known as BBM Productions for their college course, includes mature students Bruce and Calum Mitchell working alongside Anya McClure, Michael Frew and Jo Stewart.

Some of the footage was shot before the lockdown measures were put in place but the team had to radically change what they had planned from the original project. They were unable to meet in person to plan the project, so the video ended up being produced remotely.

Bruce added: "I am 55 and could now be actually making films - perhaps for the next 20 years. Age is no longer a barrier to a new career well beyond retirement age, especially if you have a passion for what you are doing.”
