Parents urged to follow COVID rules as Fife schools prepare to re-open

Health bosses in Fife have urged parents to follow COVID guidelines as they prepare to send children back to school.

The advice includes to stay at home if they have any with symptoms - or if they have not yet completed a period of isolation if required following a holiday during the October break.

Fif schools were at the centre of a number of positive tests in the weeks leading up to the October break, with classes disrupted, while Sinclairtown Primary in Kirkcaldy was shut completely until the autumn holidays ended.

Dona Milne, director of Public Health, NHS Fife, said: ““We know that things are not easy but by sticking with the guidelines you are helping yourself, your family and friends, your school and the wider community.”

She added: “With a rise in the numbers of Covid cases across the country, it is more important than ever that we remain vigilant and continue to follow the guidelines – wearing face coverings as directed, observing physical distancing, maintaining good hand hygiene and self isolating and booking a test if symptomatic.”

Enhanced cleaning measures are in place across Fife’s schools.

Shelagh McLean, head of education and children’s services at Fife Council said: “Our first priority is to make sure everyone in our school communities are safe.”

Pupils are reminded to wear face masks in communal areas, on school transport and where 2m distancing can't be maintained.
