Whirlwind start for new Viewforth headteacher and a very quick adjustment to life outwith classroom ...

Lisa Moore is the new headteacher at Viewforth High. She took up the new role on February 17 and she told The Press about some of the difficulties she and her staff have encountered.

She said: “We had to adjust very quickly to a new way of working at home without worrying pupils about Covid 19, as well as informing them that supports would remain in place both academically and pastorally.

“One of the biggest challenges was working with our senior pupils to support them through the sudden changes in SQA assessment arrangements.

“We have overcome the variety of challenges by remaining in close communication with parents, pupils and staff, using the technologies available to us.”

She said staff have created a range of online learning resources for pupils: “The staff are continuing to communicate with young people and are regularly updating the online resources.

“For those pupils who do not have access to the internet we have been sharing information about educational television shows and activities that don’t require technology.

She continued: “Feedback from parents has been very supportive and they are appreciative of the work that the staff are doing to support pupils in these challenging times.”
