The annual march and celebration was scheduled for July 4 in Kirkcaldy town centre.

The organisers confirmed today that the 2020 event was off.

Fife Pride was first staged in 2017 and was an instant success, drawing huge numbers to Kirkcaldy and creating a vibrant, colourful event.

VIP guests included Kymn Mazelle and Tina Cousins, while several thousand people poured into the heart of the town to be part of the day.

Since then it has established itself as a major gathering in the town’s calendar, and has won huge support from local schools, organisations and businesses.

The decision to cancel in the midst of a lockdown which has no end date was taken with a heavy heart.

On social media, the organisers said: “Due to circumstances beyond our control, the team has taken the decision to cancel Fife Pride on July 4.

“We will continue to monitor the situation and, if anything changes, we will let you know.”

It urged all its supporters to follow the guidelines on social distancing to help tackle the threat of the virus spreading.

“Let’s all keep playing our part in this by continuing to follow the guidelines and supporting all of our front line workers and protecting our NHS.,” it said.

“We hope you and your families are all well. Stay safe, stay well and we look forward to seeing you at the next Fife Pride.”
