The move was confirmed by Fife Council in a post on its Facebook page yesterday.

The local authority revealed it is closing all outdoor play facilities such as play parks, skate parks and multi-use games areas.

But it is understood that open areas like the Links in Burntisland will remain open.

In the Facebook post, Fife Council said: “We want people to still enjoy some fresh air every day – but we also want everyone to stick to the government advice about social distancing. To help reduce the spread of COVID-19, we are asking that outdoor play facilities such as play parks, skate parks and multi-use games areas are not used.

“Closing these types of facilities means there is more chance that the advice to stop all public gatherings of more than two people is followed and that groups of young people do not arrange to meet up outdoors.

“At this time, we encourage you to still enjoy Fife’s outdoors as a form of exercise, either on your own or with those you live with, for a run, walk or cycle. #stayhomesavelives”
