Coronavirus in Fife: Kingdom to escape worst pub lockdowns

Fife looks set to escape the worst of the restrictions coming into force this weekend, which will see licences premises across the central belt ordered to close their doors.

The new restrictions will start from this Friday, lasting until October 25, however, Fife was not among the areas mentioned for further measures.

Hospitality outlets nationwide will be able to operate between 6am and 6pm to serve food and non-alcoholic drinks.

With higher levels of infections in the Central Belt, greater restrictions will be in place in Greater Glasgow and the Clyde, Lanarkshire, Ayrshire and Arran, Lothians and Forth Valley.

However, bars outside the areas listed will be able to continue trading until the current 10pm curfew outdoors.

Ms Sturgeon said: “So while the measures I announce today will feel like a backward step, they are in the interests of protecting our progress overall.

“It is by taking the tough but necessary action now, that we hope to avoid even tougher action in future.”
