A few members are working together to make some home-cooked meals, do some shopping, check on people and deliver food to those who need it in the current crisis.

The idea came from Sharon Munro, the owner of the town-based New York Sandwich Company, who is also a member of the Rotary Club of Kirkcaldy.

She said: “A couple of my friends have older relatives who have been finding it difficult to get something to eat.

“I have a freezer full of home-cooked meals including cottage pie and stovies so I have been delivering the meals to them and I thought I would offer this to others.

“I then thought about trying to help those locally who might need shopping done or need someone to check in on friends or elderly relatives just to make sure they are ok - it is just about us doing what we can to pull together and help out where we can.”

Sharon will have help from her fellow Rotarians including her husband Brian, Ken Stahly, Caroline King and Mark Rossiter who have offered their support.

haron said if anyone is self-isolating or doesn’t feel comfortable going out, she can collect shopping for them, or make some meals, ring their doorbell and leave it at their door.

She said: “I have a friend of a friend – an 87-year-old who just wasn’t happy about going out so I got her some shopping - she had plenty of meals but needed things like toilet roll, milk and a loaf of bread. We are offering to help anyone who may be in a similar position.”

Sharon continued: “I have 300 meals I have made in my freezer they include stovies, fish pies, cottage pies and chicken and ham pies and I am happy to deliver them free of charge to anyone who is unable to get out and might need home-cooked meals.

“This is what the Rotary is about – helping out in the community and looking out for people who are elderly or vulnerable and needing the support.”
