“We have taken the difficult decision to close all our facilities to the public temporarily and will continually monitor the advice from Government so that we are in a good position to re-open as quickly as possible when appropriate.”

Mr Hamilton said the trust would communicate directly with Leisure Active members and Learn to Swim participants with all membership and swimming class fees being frozen automatically.

Fitness class and health and well being participants, as well as clubs with regular bookings, will also be notified of the closure.

The position had been under review from the start of the week when wholescale closures started to hit every aspect of society.

Steps had been taken by to increase cleanliness measures, and staff and customers were advised to follow Scottish Government and Public Health Scotland guidance.
