It comes after roughly two weeks of only tiny increases in Fife, with numbers at a standstill for days on end.

Between May 14 and 28, Fife’s total number of cases went from 823 to 830, while in the same time period the Scottish average rose from 1008 to 1092.

NHS Fife Medical Director, Dr Chris McKenna said: “Through a combination of robust resilience planning, agility within our hospital system, and an incredible workforce regularly going above and beyond, NHS Fife has managed to ensure that our services have not been overwhelmed by the effects of coronavirus – and the local statistics increasingly show that we are now likely beyond the peak of the curve.

“Crucially, without the support of our population, we may have found ourselves in a very different position and we should acknowledge the efforts of the people of Fife – many of whom who have made great sacrifices and lifestyle changes - in helping to keep us safe by following public health guidance.
