Fife coronavirus deaths almost double in a week

The number of people who have died in Fife due to coronavirus has doubled in the space of aweek, according to new figures released today.

A total of 85 people are now known to have died of the virus in Fife, up from 46 last week.

Across Scotland, 1616 people have died since the first death certificate mentioned covid19 just over a month ago.

North of the border, 537 deaths due to coronavirus have now been reported in care homes, with 910 hospital deaths and 168 at home.

This week’s figures cover the period between April 13 and 19.

Meanwhile, the rate of increase in new cases increased in Fife today, with 593, up from 561 yesterday, which was a more modest rise from 542 the previous day.

In Fife hospitals, there are currently 135 known cases, with seven in intensive care.
