A total of 876 cases have been detected in Fife, meaning that the five new cases since yesterday marks the highest single increase since May 14, when there were seven new cases overnight.

The news comes after NHS Fife admitted yesterday admitted that there were 35 “historic” cases which had not been counted properly due to a “software issue”.

The Scottish Government today confirmed that the 35 cases should have been counted between May 14 and 26. Until the correction was issued yesterday, statistics showed that Fife had just 15 cases in that 12-day period.

Today’s figures showed that 60 people in Fife are currently in hospital with the virus.

Meanwhile 189 people have now died in Fife as a result of coronavirus, according to new figures released today.

It means a further eight people have died since last week’s update.

69 of those deaths occurred in care homes, with 17 at home, and 103 in hospitals.

The latest death statistics cover the week between May 25 and 31.
