We asked readers on the Fife Free Press Facebook page how they felt about the full lockdown in Scotland, which starts at midnight.

Views ranged from people calling it a ‘waste of time’ to others who felt the new restrictions don’t go far enough.

“Just going round in circles!” said Sarah Mckenna. But Megan Callaghan had a more optimistic view.

"We’ve done it once and we’ll do it again,” she said, “we’ve got this.”

Many viewed the new lockdown as a necessary move. Ricky Gierus said: “Had to happen things getting out of hand with the numbers increasingly higher.”

And others like Craig McEwan called for more enforcement of the rules. He said: “This lockdown needs to be enforced. Too many think it’s okay to break the rules as nothing is done.”

While Gavin Johnston said it has been called “one month too late”.

There were those who believe this lockdown won’t be enough to stop the spread of coronavirus.

Claire McIntosh said: “A full lockdown would be stopping everything that’s non-essential and shutting the borders. Wouldn’t class this as a complete lockdown just like the first one wasn’t.”

"Can’t be a national lockdown if everyone is still working,” said Darren Mcguire.

And Kirsty Munnoch said: “If you’re going to do another lockdown do it right. Only food shops, hospitals open, everything else closed.”

Others were not convinced people will abide by the rules. Laula Mac said: “People will continue to do as they please, yet again those who adhere to the advice will pay the price of those that are selfish.”

On the other side of the argument was Kevin Bunting, who called the lockdown a “waste of time”. He said: “Been there done that. Nine months later we are still behind the virus.”

But Will Blake said: “Hopefully by March the vaccine will be well in the system and allow businesses to reopen for spring. We cannot continue to have a stop start approach.”
