The Scottish Government’s daily figures showed on Tuesday that the number of cases within the health board area continues to rise.

The total number of positive cases recorded in the Kingdom since the outbreak began rose from 993 to 997 within 24 hours.

The figures show that confirmed cases in Fife have steadily been increasing in recent days with four new cases also recorded on Sunday and Monday.

In the last seven days, there have been 18 positive cases recorded in the region.

The news of the latest four cases comes a day after NHS Fife confirmed a pupil at Queen Anne High School in Dunfermline has tested positive for Covid-19.

The health board said the pupil continues to have mild symptoms and is currently isolating at home with other household members.

It said there is no evidence to suggest any onward transmission within the school at this stage and that contacts of the confirmed case have been informed.

NHS Fife reassured parents and pupils that the risk of catching Covid-19 remains low.

Tuesday’s government figures show there were 154 positive cases recorded across Scotland over night, bringing the total number confirmed as having coronavirus in the country to 20,632 since the outbreak began.

A total of 577,974 people in Scotland have been tested for Covid-19 with 557,342 returning negative tests.
