Pregnant women attending outpatient appointments in Fife can now be accompanied by one other person.

Since March, women attending the maternity unit at Kirkcaldy’s Victoria Hospital for antenatal appointments and ultrasound scans were required to do so alone due to the Covid-19 pandemic.

However, from today (Monday) the Scottish Government has allowed health boards to relax some of the restrictions for maternity services.

The changes to some of the restrictions mean:

- pregnant women can now identify one designated visitor to accompany them to scans and antenatal appointments

- pregnant women can now identify one birth partner and one additional designated visitor, if requested, to accompany them during labour

- pregnant women may identify one designated visitor, as well as their birth partner, to visit them on the post natal ward

In a post on social media, NHS Fife said: “Please be assured that we are well prepared for these changes and, to ensure both you and your family’s safety and well-being, we ask that you work with us to help reduce the spread of Covid-19.

“There continues to be no children (anyone under 16) permitted on the maternity unit at this time.”
