Chapel Level care home in Broom Road, Kirkcaldy is a purpose-built 60-bed property for people who require nursing memory care for those living with dementia and general nursing care.

A spokesperson for the home, which is owned by HC-One, confirmed the outbreak and said affected staff are self-isolating until they have recovered.

The spokesman said: “Our residents are our absolute priority and we are taking all steps to minimise further spread of the virus including caring for residents in their rooms, continuing to restrict staff movement and focusing on high standards of infection control.

"We are doing everything we can to support our residents to return to good health. Affected colleagues are away from work and self-isolating until they have recovered, and we wish them well.

“The home is closed to non-essential visitors and admissions and we continue to work closely with our local health partners to respond to the outbreak."

He added: “We have the staff, PPE and equipment we need, and we are grateful for the ongoing support and understanding of our families.”

The news comes after NHS Fife has confirmed that six residents at Matthew Fyfe Care Home in Dunfermline have tested positive for coronavirus so far, and confirmed there has been “loss of life” linked to the outbreak.

The exact number of deaths has not been revealed due to confidentiality reasons, but the number involved is believed to be fewer than five.
