Appointments for patients to receive their next scheduled dose are currently not taking place at surgeries across the Kingdom due to the ongoing Covid-19 pandemic.

Scott Garden, director of pharmacy for NHS Fife, said: “The Covid-19 pandemic and the requirement for shielding vulnerable patients and social distancing led us to consider alternative treatment options for patients who currently receive their vitamin B12 by injection.

“This was in line with guidance from British Society of Haematology and in conjunction with NHS Fife Haematology and Gastroenterology consultants.

“The need for vitamin B12 injections is discussed with each patient individually and for some patients whose injection is due; this may involve a temporary change to oral vitamin B12.

“Regular vitamin B12 injections will be resumed when it is safe to do so.”
