First Covid-19 local ‘walk through’ test centre to open in St Andrews

The Scottish Government is to open its first local ‘walk-through’ testing centre in St Andrews.

The centre will be the first of 11 to be opened across Scotland, and will be based at the Victory Memorial Hall.

First Minister Nicola Sturgeon said during today’s press conference that the centres would help to increase sampling capacity by more than 3000 tests a day.

The announcement was welcomed by St Andrews councillor Ann Verner.

She said: “As a local councillor I welcome the news from the Scottish Government today that the first walk through test centre is to be in St Andrews. Well done to everyone involved in this momentous decision.

“With an ageing population of more than 16,000, tourists and the addition of more than 9000 students, this is the ideal choice for what I believe to be the first of 11.”

More details to come shortly.
