Former Kirkcaldy woman becomes a Dame in Queen's Birthday Honours

Anne Marie Rafferty, Professor of Nursing Policy at King’s College London and Royal College of Nursing President has been awarded a DBE (Dame Commander of the Order of the British Empire).

Professor Rafferty, who attended St Andrews RC High School, now lives in London.

She is a world-leading academic, researcher, clinician and leader in nursing and she was one of the leading advocates for the move to degree-level nursing qualifications which has enhanced the standing of the nursing profession and allowed nurses to take on more responsibilities.

She was elected as president of the Royal College of Nursing in 2019.

RCN Chief Executive & General Secretary Dame Donna Kinnair said: “I would like to congratulate our President Professor Anne Marie Rafferty on her Damehood.

"Anne Marie’s world-renowned research into staffing has been an invaluable tool for nursing staff making the case that safe and effective staffing in their workplace saves lives.
