This work to create the drains at car park A, outside the maternity and children’s entrance, to prevent future flooding.

It comes after hospital workers' cars were damaged after flash floods in August last year.

A spokesman for NHS Fife said that while a relatively small number of spaces will be impacted, people attending the hospital are being advised to allow extra time for their journey due to the disruption.

Last year, staff finishing their shifts were shocked to find their cars submerged in water following thunderstorms which keft the car park completely flooded.

Cars parked in the bays near Lauder Road and Yetholm Way became submerged in water with a number floating as a result of the devastating downpours.

Many suffered extensive damage after being carried away by gallons of water.

The Vic was still able to operate as normal, but car parks A and B were left out of action after they were totally flooded.

Police Scotland and Scottish Fire and Rescue worked through the night after it happened to help those affected and the hospital was overwhelmed by offers of support from local companies to help staff get safely home after their night-shift.

It is hoped the new drains will be able to stop this from happening again in the future should flash flooding occur.
