Plans lodged to build new multi-million £ orthopaedic centre at Victoria Hospital

Plans to build a new multi-million £ orthopaedic centre at Victoria Hospital in Kirkcaldy have been lodged with Fife Council.

The proposed 18-month long project to move the department out of the old tower block – it’s the last in-patient department in the old building – will be the largest capital project NHS Fife has undertaken since the new hospital wing was built in 2012.

Graham Constructionhas been appointed as the main contractor, and now it waits on permission from councillors to begin work.

The new centre will boast three operating theatres, 34 beds and an out-patient facility, and is expected to be complete by March 2022.

It is to be built on land currently used as a car park to the north east of the hospital campus - a adjacent to the Phase 1 ward accommodation building.

NHS Fife says it will help to link the original and new buildings at the hospital.

Car park spaces lost due to its construction will be relocated elsewhere within the hospital site - and that will mean a further planning application being lodged.

The orthopaedic centre will be built over three floors, and be fully accessible to patients with mobility issues.

The ground floor will host the out-patients department, the first floor will accommodate the admissions area and in-patient department, and theatres and staff areas will be on the second floor

The end result, said NHS Fife, will be a state of the art facility for Fife patients in need of knee or hip replacements.

Graham Construction will be responsible for delivering it from design to construction.
