That was the message from Cupar Community Council chairwoman Gina Logan after a defibrillator, which used to be kept at Watts before it was closed at the end of last year, was installed at Cupar Fire Station.

There are now nine of the lifesaving equipment placed throughout the town, making the people of Cupar safer.

The defibrillators – which are used to restart the heart when someone suffers a cardiac arrest – provide the local community with instant access to potentially life-saving equipment.

Steve Stewart, a member of the community who has been pushing to bring more defibs to Cupar, contacted Garry West, station commander, about taking the defib.

“There was no issue with that,” Garry said. “Most of the people know where we are. We also have equipment here, so if anyone or groups need to borrow it they can get in contact.”

“At the end of the day, it’s all about the community being more confident and helping save lives,” added Steve.

Gina Logan said the community council was 100 per cent behind bringing more defibs to Cupar, adding: “We’re really pleased the fire service has taken this defib. The more we can get in Cupar, the better.”

There are now 24-hour defibs at Eden Fife Autocare, Cupar Motorcycles, St John’s, Fisher & Donaldson, St Columba’s 3D Fitness, the golf club, the parish church hall and the fire station.

There are also indoor defibs at the sports centre and Tesco.
