Nostalgia: Workers from Kirkcaldy’s Tramways in the 1910s

A glimpse into a past transport era in Kirkcaldy.

In this photograph, which goes back to the 1914-1918 period, conductresses on the former tramway system are seen with the tramway manager, Mr James Fisher.

Kirkcaldy’s tramway system first came into service in 1903 – an occasion hailed locally as the transport event of the age.

The tram sheds were located at Oswald Road and a “car” is seen in the upper left of the photograph.

After nearly three decades of service the trams passed into transport history, clanking to a halt in 1931 when they were replaced by buses.
