A finishing touch for Kirkcaldy's east end as Adele moves in

The wedding supplies shop opened on Thursday morning, complete with bagpipes and ribbon-cutting assistance from Fife Flyers players Danny Stewart and Matt Delahey.

Owner Adele Scott told the Press she was delighted to open to the public after taking two months to renovate the former Reid’s furniture store – but admitted there had been moments of stress.

She said: “We even had to replace a window which had been smashed the night before opening but we’ll just put that down to experience.

“We are here!”

Finishing Touches, which began 16 years ago in small premises on Kirk Wynd, is quite a success story.

Adele started out supplying accessories such as balloons then introduced custom-made wedding stationary and later branched out to provide a complete wedding linen service for local hotels.

Her staff team has also expanded accordingly and, with the new shop, now numbers nine people.

Adele said: “It’s a step forward for us.

“You stay quietly confident and try to keep your feet firmly on the ground.

“In our old premises our business was only getting to a level and no further but we now have all this space to do what we want to do.

“The plan is to sell wedding dresses on the first floor in a couple of years. That’s my goal.”

Adele’s father Jim McGuire said he was incredibly proud of her success, which he attributed to her work ethic.

“She’s had hard times but she stuck it out,” he said.

Congratulating Adele on the shop opening, Roger Mullin MP said: “I’m very supportive of the regeneration of Kirkcaldy High Street and this sends a very significant message that the east end of the High Street is definitely open for business.”
