Aaron Carruthers, from Auchmuty High School, in Glenrothes, was invited to Banbeath industrial estate premises on Thursday to formally receive the scholarship.

Silberline is a manufacturing company which specialises in a range of metallic pigments and colourings for coatings, plastics and inks.

The firm has a scholarship programme in recognition of Ernest Scheller III, who worked for Silberline USA for 15 years, but his tenure as company president was cut tragically short by his death, aged just 40, in 1997.

The scholarship is run annually and is advertised in the local high schools in Fife, applicable to pupils who will be going on to university.

One student is awarded with a three-year period of funding, as long as they remain at university and continue to do well academically.

Silberline was delighted with the high calibre of candidates who applied for the award this year.

A company spokesman said: “Aaron is a focused individual who works extremely hard academically and we have every confidence he will thrive will the challenges of university life.”

Aaron has received a number of unconditional offers from several universities but has decided to start at St Andrews University in September this year.

Silberline extended its wishes of good luck to him at the presentation last week.
