An award-winning performance by Liam in theatrical contest

The 21-year-old ex-Madras College pupil, from Newport-on-Tay, has won this year’s Take the Spotlight competition.

Liam, a student at the Royal Conservatoire of Scotland, earned the top prize of £2500 by making a minute-long film about what inspires him at the prestigious Glasgow venue.

Students from Britain’s eight specialist performing arts colleges were asked to make short films about why they study at a conservatoire.

Liam opted to show the personal side in his 60-second offering, focusing on “the amazing facilities, amazing teachers and the fanstastic musicans and actors” there.

“What I love about Glasgow is how personal they make it,” he added. “In such a small year group, you become like part of a family and, with thatsupport, you can create amazing pieces.”

Liam, who plays ‘cello, guitar and piano, is in his second year of studying musical theatre and said he loves the versatility of the teaching, which blends music, acting and dancing.

He said there was tremendous talent in Scotland and “some amazing companies”.
