Kate Frodsham, who teaches at St Paul’s Primary School, won the My Champion Award at the Young Epilepsy Champions Awards 2016, which took place at The UnderGlobe in London.

She was nominated by pupil Daniel Brown (6), who has focal epilepsy and was struggling with class work and anxiety about his seizures.

Since moving schools and joining Kate’s class he has flourished. Daniel feels empowered to tell her when he feels a seizure coming on, something he rarely does at home. When Daniel has to miss school for hospital appointments, Kate will make sure his work is ready a day early so he can keep up with the rest of his class.

His mum Felicity said: “All schools should have a Mrs Frodsham! Kate saw past Daniel’s condition and I cannot thank her enough for what she has done for him.”

The award celebrates those who have gone over and above to support someone with epilepsy. This could be a carer, a parent, a teacher or someone in education.

Kate said it felt “absolutely amazing” to have won.

She said: “It meant an awful lot to be nominated. I feel so lucky to teach Daniel, he deserves the same chance at school as his other classmates and I make sure I do what I can to make that possible. Knowing I have made a difference to his education and confidence is incredible.”
