Award-winning folk and traditional musicians the Paul McKenna Band are bringing their highly-acclaimed sound to the Byre Theatre’s auditorium next Friday (February 17) as part of a tour of their new album, ‘Stems the Tide’ out now on Greentrax records.
Hailed by the New York Times as ‘the best folk band to have come out of Scotland in the last 20 years’ and as ‘the best band of their generation’ by the Living Tradition magazine, the Paul McKenna Band promise to captivate fans old and new with their fresh and innovative arrangements of traditional songs as well as original music.
Made up of an outstanding combination of vocals, guitar and bouzouki, fiddle, flute and whistles, bodhrán and percussion, the sound of the Paul McKenna Band is at once unique and nostalgic, mesmerising and exciting.
Last month, the band headlined the international Celtic Connections festival at the Glasgow Royal Concert Hall and won a whole new set of fans with their outstanding performance.
Playing at the Byre Theatre for one-night only, this is a fantastic and rare chance to see the beginnings of a truly great band in the making and to celebrate the talent that Scotland has to offer.
