Big crowds for Leven's '˜sunshine rally'

'˜Celebrating our transport heritage' was the theme for this year's Leven Veteran and Vintage Rally held at Kirkland Railway Yard on Sunday, when, despite the forecast, the sun was shining bright on the day.

There was a great turnout of a wide variety of veteran and vintage vehicles, with well over 100 machines on show, matched by the crowds who showed their support even more so than last year.

Thanks to hard work carried out by Cooks over the last few weeks, the showground was even bigger, while hosts, Fife Heritage Railway (FHR), was able to show off its new, expanded platform. It held the queues of excited kids and adults who enjoyed rides on the River Eden and the shark throughout the day along the half-mile track.

FHR saved the rally from complete cancellation three years ago, and has worked hard to ensure a bigger and better event each year since. It has been incorporated in a number of summer open days throughout 2016.

Jim Rankin, from FHR, said: “July 31 is our next open day when our train will be running for passengers again. So those who did not manage to get a trip on our extremely busy train at the Leven Car Rally, they will manage it no problem in July.

“It is planned that every month there will be more and more projects completed to unveil. So keep dropping in and see our continued progress.”
