Bob the builder can he fix it one brick at a time?

Bob Millar took over a patch in East Wemyss four years ago when the area was first developed as allotments.

To finish off the central feature Bob, who before retirement worked in the building trade, had and idea. “I was needing a feature for the allotment and decided to collect bricks from brickworks from Fife. I have 17 types so far and six still to get,” he explained.

Friends, neighbours and fellow allotment tenders pitched in and Bob sourced many of the brick from allotments across the county.

“My granddaughter was out jogging the other night and came back with two bricks in her hands! Everyone is involved.”

“The more I searched the more I became interested in the history of the brickworks,” Bob said. The feature has a selection of bricks from across Fife including rare finds from the smaller works such as Wilson of St Andrews and Eden bricks from Guardbridge.

Before brickworks closed across Fife the individual works would stamp their bricks to identify where they were made.
