Bob's Walk Day 4: Final miles on a perfect walk

The last few hundred yards were down a gentle slope that leads to the building which will complete the Maggie’s network when it opens its doors this week.

We started our last day of Bob’s Walk at Kincardine, crossing the bridge in single file to squeeze through the barriers which form part of the current roadworks.

The glorious sunshine was quickly whipped away by the chill wind as we crossed the Forth, so it was a joy to finally head away from the howl of motorway traffic and on to the road that wound its way through the flat agricultural fields to Carronshore.

With Longannet Power Station behind us, and fewer glimpses of the vast Grangemouth refinery to spoil the skyline, we were able to watch four deer jump a fence and race through the fields just as a pigeon fancier released his birds which circled and swooped before taking flight.

There horses - ones that moved, and two, the Kelpies, that didn’t but still caught the eye as they stood proudly in the distance.

They were a marker as we counted down the last eight miles before returning to the main road and into Stenhousemuir.

From there, it was a short final walk to Maggie’s Centre - one which started at Maggie’s Fife and blessed us with fine walking weather.

The rain held off, save for one brief shower as we departed Aberdour and another as we turned to face Culross, the sun shone, and the grey skies remained benign.

It was a glorious walk in great company, and hopefully one that will raise a decent sum for Maggie’s Fife.

The core walkers will also be returning to see the new centre at Larbert once it is up and running - the workmen swarming all over it doing the final fittings didn’t need any distraction as they counted down to the official launch so we contented ourselves with a walk around the building, and savoured the views from its waterside location.
