During the building of the facility, a new school logo was designed by the then Primary 7 pupils, who, although they would never get the chance to enjoy the school, wanted to make their mark for years to come.

It had been part of the original plans for that logo to be put on the gable-end of the building so it could be seen by everyone entering the town from Kirkcaldy Road.

But unfortunately the plans were removed from the final design before completition.

“It was so disappointing to discover after the school opened that the logo had been taken off the plans by officers,” explained Councillor Susan Leslie.

“As soon as I found out the plans had been dropped I worked hard to reinstate them and find the funding to get the logo made and installed.”

Thanks to her efforts, funding was secured from Fife Council’s economy, enterprise, planning and protective services department as well as the Kirkcaldy area local community planning budget.

The chairman of the current Parent Council and three former chairmen welcomed the news and are delighted the former pupils now have a connection with the school.

“This is a great finishing touch,” said Jo Hadoke, who chaired the council when the plans were being drawn up. “We had been told that this would be part of the design such a long time ago and it is great to see it finally happen.”

Fellow former chairman Andrea Stark added: “Everyone coming into the town will be able to see immediately what a great school building we have and the wonderful new logo designed by former pupils.”

Former pupils Joanna Barron, Olivia Bett, Eilidh Paul, Kirstin Armstrong and Alicia Thomson were all involved in designing the logo and said: “It was really important to us to leave something of our thoughts with the new school. It looks great!”

Cllr Leslie added: “I have been delighted to help get this project finally completed. Things like this, that matter to pupils, parents and the town, are worth fighting for.”
