Can you pick Fife's greatest ever live gig?
What links Deep Purple, Elton John, The Kinks, The Clash, Gene Vincent and the Bay City Rollers?
Answer – they have all played live in Fife.
The Kingdom has hosted an amazing number of memorable live gigs over the decades, and this month the Fife Free Press Group sets out to produce the definitive guide to the very, very best of them.
Our annual FP100 will chronicle – for the very first time – the 100 greatest gigs ever staged in Fife.
It promises to spark some amazing memories, and posisbly a few arguments as well over who made the cut, and which bands didn’t.
The list isn’t confined to the big names such as The Who, The Beatles and Kasabian, but delves deep into the archives to capture those intimate gigs at the region’s legendary folk scene and its thriving network of smaller venues too.
And it also captures some of those forgotten moments of live entertainment during ther 1960s when some of the greatest names on rock music would regularly stop in Fife and play a gig, often backed by local bands.
But, at the heart of the FP100, will sit YOUR memories.
We want to hear from you.
What was YOUR greatest ever gig in Fife?
Which band, or singer, burns bright in your memory even after all these years?
The only criteria is it must have happened on stage within the Kingdom.
That could be Gene Vincent at Kirkcaldy’s ice rink, Snow Patrol at the PathTavern, or Van Morrison at Fife Aid in the mud at Craigtoun Park.
Send your nominations to us at [email protected] - put ‘FP100’ in the message subject box and then hit ‘send’!
We’d love to hear your memories of the gig, and if you have any pictures – it could be a ticket stub, programme or a selfie with the band! – we’d be delighted to see them too!
You can also take part via our Facebook page and online at www.fifetoday.co.uk.
The FP100 will be unveiled on March 20 – it’s a supplement everyone will be talking about for weeks to come.
We hope our hot 100 gigs sparks great memories, and sends you scurrying to the attic to find your own memorabilia and precious memories box!
The list will also include our choice of the greatest gig ever staged.
