The second generation of the pioneering EV was launched in 2018 with a 40kWh battery and joined in 2019 by the e+ version with a 62kWh battery and more power motor.

Previously this was only available in the higher N-TEC and Tekna grades but Nissan has now announced a new entry level trim for the larger-capacity version with the introduction of the e+ N-Connecta. Priced from £32,695 after the plug-in car grant, the N-Connect features the 62kWh battery and 214bhp motor and costs £4,550 more than the 40kWh N-Connecta model.

Nissan has also cut the price of the top-spec e+ Tekna by £1,685 to £34,710 after plug-in grant, as it faces increased competition from the likes of the Kia e-Niro and Volkswagen ID.3.

Prices of all other versions of the Leaf remain the same, except the Tekna 40kWh, which rises by £315 to cover the addition of a new “Intelligent Rearview Mirror”.

The new mirror is standard on Tekna and a £395 option on other trims and is similar to Land Rover’s ClearSight, using a roof-mounted camera to send an image to a screen built into the rearview mirror when the view through the rear window is obscured.

Nissan has also added blind spot intervention to all Leaf models and cut the price of its ProPilot and ProPilot Parking Assist driver assistance systems by £145 and £295 respectively on trims where they are optional extras.

Other minor changes for the Leaf line-up include the welcome addition of telescopic adjustment on the steering column and a new Ceramic Grey paint finish.
