The application for £10,000 to allow for essential maintenance work within the centre was granted by the Big Lottery’s Awards for All scheme last week.

The cash will allow the centre to sand and revarnish the main hall floor, replace panels at the back of the building and build a stage for events.

Mandy Henderson, centre manager, is delighted.

“It’s fantastic that we were awarded the full amount that we asked for. It will allow us to revamp the flooring in the main hall, as there’s over 600 people using the centre every week now so it really needs done.

“The board is responsible for all of the centre maintenance, and finding funding for it, so this is great.”

Thanks to extra funds from the Mary Leishman Foundation and a Fife Council capital grant, the centre is also planning to build a stage in the main hall.

“We’ve always been able to use the temporary stage from Fife Council, but this will be much better having our own.

“We have groups who put on shows and things, and sometimes it isn’t ideal when everyone is on the same level.

“Our kids do plays at the Adam Smith as well, so this will give them an opportunity to rehearse on a stage.”

Roger Mullin MP has welcomed the funding, commenting: “I was delighted to hear that Linton Lane Centre in Kirkcaldy have secured £10,000 funding from Awards for All for improvements to their existing facilities.

“The Centre is a fantastic resource within my constituency, utilised by many community groups and clubs for a variety of different purposes.”

Staff at the centre were also ecstatic on Friday when they were presented with the Provost’s award at the Kingdom FM Local Hero awards.

“With this being our 50th anniversary year, winning this made it extra special,” said Mandy.”
