Church forges newfive-year link with American colleagues

Buckhaven Community Church (BCC) is launching a collaborative partnership with a group of churches in the USA.

The Avery Baptist Association (ABA), comprising 23 churches, is based in North Carolina and a group will be visiting Levenmouth next month.

Local minister the Rev Peter Carr explained the link-up was for five years and would help BCC grow, possibly leading to further new expressions of church in Levenmouth.

Avery’s mission director Garland Honeycutt, along with Pastor Brent Snyder and his wife Autumn are due in Fife for a four-day trip.

A full programme is planned, including a visit to a Fellowship of Independent Evangelical Churches pastors’ conference at Newcraigs Church, Kirkcaldy, on May 19.

Avery’s website said Scottish roots ran deep in Appalachia, and the aims of the partnership included strengthening BCC and helping it in the planting of new, self-sustaining evangelical churches.

It noted Buckhaven had a population of around 6000, but 98 per cent of them had no contact with a local church.

ABA hoped to deliver the message through evangelism, outreach, children’s ministry and leadership development,
