Come along and give Fife club a '˜tri'!
For in less than five years since it formed, Glenrothes Triathlon Club is going from strength to strength and now boasts less than five ‘Ironman’ - athletes who have completed what many regard as the ultimate physical challenge of a 2.4 mile swim, 112 mile cycle ride and 26.2 mile marathon run.
Formed in 2012 by triathlon enthusiast Steven McEwan as a way for like minded competitors and others wanting to give the multi-discipline events a go, the club now boasts over 50 members.

Hide AdBut while the club’s stature and competitive success continues to grow, its original ethos of camaraderie, support and the enjoyment of the sport, at whatever level of fitness members are at, is the underpinning reason for the club’s popularity.
“When you become a member, you join one of the friendliest and inclusive clubs around, whether you’re already an elite triathlete, a beginner or someone just wanting to take part or improve in any or all of the three disciplines we can help you on your journey,” explained Maureen Hill, Glenrothes Triathlon Club vice chairman.
With a strong running background Maureen joined the club two years ago and in her position of ladies team captain has been successful in bringing more females to the club.
“We have members participating in numerous events during the course of the year including triathlons, duathlons, cycling sportives and various distance running events, but we also have members just wanting to get fit, those who may enjoy one of the disciplines and want add to it or those who want to challenge themselves,” she told the Gazette.

Hide AdAnd with a newly appointed committee, training and support programmes in all disciplines and for all abilities, the club is expecting a bright future.
“2016 promises to be a great year for Glenrothes Triathlon Club and the sport of Triathlon in general,” said Andy Milne, club chairman.
“We have a varied range of abilities with lots of members set to compete in their first triathlon through to a lesser number competing in half Ironman and Ironman events.”
