A Bell Baxter pupil has organised a stand up comedy evening to help raise funds for a school trip to Borneo.
Rebecca McQueen (14) needs to raise £4000 to fund her World Challenge Expedition to the Asian island.
However, as Rebecca was a last-minute addition to the trip, due to another member of the group dropping out, she has only been fundraising since September.
Through organising various events, such as a silent auction, craft fair and quiz night, the Balmullo teenager has managed to raise £3000 so far.
In a bid to reach the £4000 before April, Rebecca has organised the ‘World Challenge Comedy Night’ event, which will take place at the St Andrews United Social Club next month.
The event will feature comedians Kevin Knight, Lubo, and Huge Davies, a nominee for the BBC New Comedy Award 2017.
Rebecca’s mum, Jackie, said she was “immensely proud” of her daughter and said the “Balmullo community have been very supportive”.
“The school was offering the trip as a challenge and this is also a challenge for herself,” Jackie explained.
“It’s an amazing opportunity and it will be a fantastic experience for her.
“I am immensely proud of her, especially because she’s had such a short time to raise money.
“It was a year after it was organised that she got involved, but we have enjoyed fundraising.”
The money raised will go towards the 30-day expedition, which includes travelling to Borneo, helping the local communities through projects, and learning the culture.
The event will take place on Saturday, February 17, with tickets costing £10.
