And the festival committee is quietly confident that this year’s programme will have very broad appeal.

The 2016 festival will run from July 20-30 and already people are wondering if last year’s amazing total of 4216 putting rounds will be beaten.

At the heart of the festival once again will be a strong programme of music.

The musical line up which has been revealed so far includes the Jimi Shandrix Experience Ceilidh Band which will certainly enliven the festival ceilidh on the first night; Opera Bohemia ‘I Pagliacci’; Gaelic folk from the talented Mischa Macpherson Trio; classical guitarist Matthew McAllister and the legendary Jimmie McGregor.

There will also be a performance from the ever popular Christine Boville and Buddy Holly and the Cricketers will bring the festival to a rousing rocking close.

While Richard Digance will be hosting a song writing workshop in addition to his keenly anticipated performance.

Children’s activities will be running throughout the festival to ensure it really is a family event. This year the events for the young family members have been further enhanced with the inclusion of Balance Bikes, ZooLab, Great Crail Bake Off, Fused Glass Kids’ Class and a Krafty Kids’ Workshop.

But it’s not all about music and entertaining the children, other events taking place over the 11 days include a performance of ‘Midsummer Night’s Dream’ by Illyria and Levenmouth actor Clive Russell will be introducing ‘Desert Island Poems’ at an afternoon tea event on July 27.

Kirkcaldy crime writer Val McDermid, who has a worldwide reputation, will be talking about her work too.

Oganisers say that this is not all that’s planned and even more events and activities will be revealed as the festival draws closer.

Crail Festival has been running for the last four decades.
