Cut down on booze and know the safe limits, says Fife expert
Jim Bett, service manager at Kirkcaldy-based Fife Alcohol Support Service (FASS), said no level of regular drinking was without health risks but Scots, with a 20 per cent greater problem with alcohol than the rest of Britain, needed to heed the new lower guidelines.
“At FASS, we see the results of these broad guidelines being totally missed and our counsellors help with the results of alcohol-related problems on an all-too-regular basis,” Jim said.

“This can and will be difficult for many people but it is very sound advice based on years of study,” he said. “We at FASS can help significantly anybody who is in the position of drinking too much or drinking too frequently and wants to take charge of their lifestyle and either reduce or eliminate the various problems created by alcohol from their lives.”
