This year’s Download Festival has been cancelled organisers have now confirmed, making it the second year in a row the rock and metal festival will not go ahead due to the Covid pandemic.

The festival was due to take place from 4-6 June at Donington Park in Leicestershire, with Kiss, Biffy Clyro and System of a Down as the headliners.

‘We now know it’s not possible’

Organisers of the festival said that “despite working so hard behind the scenes” to make sure it went ahead this year, they now know it’s “not possible”.

However, the festival plans to take place next year, from 10-12 June 2022, with headliners Kiss, Iron Maiden and Biffy Clyro.

Download Festival said on Twitter: “We’re heartbroken for everyone in the Download family, from artists to suppliers, and of course our passionate Download fans.”

“We’d like to take this opportunity to thank the NHS for their extraordinary efforts in rolling out the vaccine, as well as thanking all of you for your patience and for keeping the spirit of Download alive until we can be together again,” the festival’s official twitter page added.

What should I do if I have Download Festival tickets?

The festival said that those who have tickets to this year’s cancelled event “are very welcome to retain your ticket and carry it over to next year.”

However, if you would prefer a refund then you will be able to get one from your ticket agent instead.

The festival organisers said: “Look out for an email from them very soon and please only contact them if you have not been contacted after 5 days as they are very busy at this time.”
