The weblink was launched on Monday to allow families to watch services which can only be attended by a small number of relatives to comply with restrictions in place during the coronavirus lockdown.

Thea facility covers Kirkcaldy and Dunfermline.

The move comes after grieving families complained they couldn’t pay their last respects because of the restrictions on numbers - funeral services are currently limited to six members of the immediate family.

The issue of web streaming services hadn’t previously been raised, but it became a solution to a problem thrown up by the lockdown.

The service is being provided free of charge.

Councillor Craig Walker, convener of Fife’s assets, property and facilities committee, said: “We realise the current funeral restrictions are extremely tough for bereaved families.

“We hope that this will provide some comfort to families and friends, who will now be able to take up the live streaming service regardless of their circumstances.”

In line with Scottish Government guidance, funerals are currently limited to a maximum of six members of the immediate family of the deceased.
