Fife man's pilgrimage to battle scene

Local history enthusiast Bert Hannah recently completed his 190-mile wartime Walk of Remembrance, tracing the steps of his grandfather, who served in the same regiment as Buckhaven's WWI Victoria Cross recipient, Robert Dunsire.

Bert, one of the Friends of Methil Heritage Centre, also visited the Thiepval Memorial, north of Albert in The Somme, where 31 soldiers whose names are on the Buckhaven and Methil Memorial are there among the 72,000 on the Thiepval monument. “Words fail me in describing the total experience but it has certainly been very rewarding,” said Bert, who also laid a commemorative Raith Rovers wreath at Contalmaison and supported the Flying Fifers bike riders from Levenmouth on their Cycle Of Remembrance to the Somme.
