First for the IT crowd in Burntisland

The P7 youngsters took part in a learning programme called the Fife PICT (Progression in Information and Communication Technology), creating digital media and sharing their work on their e-portfolios on the Fife schools’ digital network.

And last week they were awarded the PICT achievement badge under the ‘Create and Present’ category.

The pupils followed the PICT programme allowing them to gain experience in using digital technology and activities mapped to the Curriculum for Excellence.

Pupils had to understand cloud storage, manipulating digital content, file storage and how to change digital formats, as well as gain experience of creating digital music. Each pupil had to create blog posts about what they had learned and upload their digital music.

Erik Knussen, music ICT co-ordinator with the Youth Music Initiative supported the pupils and staff to create digital music using software called ‘Mixcraft7’.

Pupils created their own digital music tracks using loops and samples of music from Mixcraft’s huge library in different musical styles. Their work was then uploaded to the pupils digital e-portfolio on the GLOW network.

Julie Pirie class teacher, said: “The children have thoroughly enjoyed their digital journey to obtain their PICT badge. They have been working extremely hard to achieve this. Making their own music was a big hit and I can see a future career for some. They are all very proud of themselves being the first class in Fife to achieve this, and will share their skills with others.”
