Their products were originally assessed at Forth Valley College, Stirling in March, but the coronavirus lockdown meant the finalists’ judging was put on hold.

The shortlist for the finals has been confirmed and includes a number of Fife businesses.

Pearson Hepburn of Kirkcaldy were nominated for their beefburgers. There were places also for Marzipan’s Meats Ltd, Tayport, and their sweet chilli cheesburger, and Watson of Leven’s spicy beefburger.

The overall champions will be revealed on July 31.

Scott Jarron, president of the Scottish Craft Butchers, said: “These evaluations always reveal really appealing products that craft butchers make and sell.

“The superior quality of bbq and grill products is widely acknowledged by customers and the innovative range comes as a response to consumers becoming more adventurous with their tastes and they are always keen to support local businesses who make their own unique quality products.

“It is always worth going the extra mile for something extra special.”
