Individuals, businesses and community groups with an interest in local food are invited to a free event at the Falkland Centre for Stewardship for the launch of the Falkland Growers & Producers Network, a joint venture between Falkland Kitchen Farm and Meadowsweet Organics.

The event, which begins at 6.30pm at The Stables, offers the opportunity to find out more about small-scale organic farming and its place within Scottish agriculture, as well as hear about the objectives of the new food network.

“We want to gauge interest in the community in the network, which we hope will make quality produce more widely available,” said Rosy McLean of Meadowsweet Organics.

“We also want to pass on some of our knowledge in the hope of inspiring others.

“The event is free to attend and soup and bread will be served along with tea and cake.”

Falkland Kitchen Farm and Meadowsweet Organics are both relatively new ventures that lie close to each other at the foot of the Lomonds and not far from the well-established Pillars of Hercules organic farm shop and cafe.

They were set up by two young couples who share a passion for growing top-quality organic produce.

Rosy and her partner , David Demjanonic, met at Pillars of Hercules while Bryde Marshall and Nat Dixon set up Falkland Kitchen Farm after meeting at St Andrews University.

The foursome hope that the launch of the food network will encourage people to think local and order fresh produce directly from them and that word will spread farther afield about the benefits of organic farming. To book a free ticket, contact Rosy on 07990 545654 or at rosy@meadowsweet-organics
