Funded by Fife Health and Wellbeing Alliance, who gave £500 for play provision, it was opened by Mandy Henderson, the centre’s development manager, who was joined by Jamie Bruce Jones of Caledonia Play near Kinross, manufacturers of the equipment, on the 50th anniversary of the centre’s opening - Aril 13, 1966 as Kirkcaldy’s Boy Club.

It follows from the centre’s major refurbishment in 2013.

Mandy said she was delighted with the garden, which is aimed at the under 5s.

“It will be used by our own group and the kids from Valley Nursery in the morning, but from 12 o’clock onwards it’s open to everyone.

“So we’re saying to any parents in the area, please come along and use it. It’s all fenced in so it’s perfectly safe.

“We’ve had people say to us that there is a lack of play areas like this around here so that’s why we had it installed, by a local firm, and I hope it will be popular.

“It’s for the community to use. If people want to bring a packed lunch with them that’s absolutely fine. They’ll be able to use the toilets here and there’s always teas and coffees on the go for adults.

“Today was the first day it was used and the children absolutely loved it - they didn’t even let the rain bother them!

“It’s another great asset for the centre.”

The opening of the garden was followed by a tea dance in the afternoon, two of the activities planned for the month to celebrate the centre’s golden anniversary.

Other events include a party on Friday at 5pm, a 60s disco on Saturday and a performance by Stages Dance School on Sunday, with more to follow throughout April.
