Glenfarg Folk Club first opened its doors in 1978.

Despite having had to move location a number of times, it has continued to provide a wide selection of top quality guest artistes or singaround sessions every Monday night (the only exception being each festive season when it closes for three weeks.)

It is truly international in its guest line-ups, and offers an eclectic mix of music ranging from Scottish traditional songs and music, to contemporary song, blues, self-penned material and Americana.

For the past two years, the club has established itself at Backstage in The Green Hotel in Kinross – and the move has proved to be a great success both from the artistes’ and the audiences’ perspectives.

The club has a reputation as a “singing club” where the loyal audiences love nothing better than to join in enthusiastically with choruses, while a number of the members are accomplished singers and musicians in their own right.

As a result of the club’s efforts to provide outstanding entertainment, it was voted the Scottish Music Club of the Year at the 2005 Scots Trad Awards and was nominated for the same award in 2010.

Being in its 40th year, the club will be hosting a number of special guest nights throughout 2018, such as The Outside Track and Fara.

In addition, it will be hosting the Fortieth Folk Feast which will from April 6 to 8.

Hamish Grant, folk club committee member, said: “The committee has booked an outstanding line-up for the folk feast for two huge concerts, featuring the brilliant Boys of the Lough and the equally brilliant Richard Digance, John Doyle, Mairearad and Anna, The James Brothers and Emily Smith, and Pauline Alexander and Sandy Stanage – all mouth-watering names and all hand-picked to produce two nights to remember.”

The feast will also include a number of other events.

There’s a welcoming ceilidh/concert featuring The Jimi Shandrix Experience, Tich Frier and The Farg Folk. Then there’s the original song competition, the 33rd World Puff-a-Box Championship, a workshop with local boy Charlie Stewart, who is the reigning TMSA young musician of the year, a Conversation with Cathal McConnell and, of course, the ever-popular singarounds.

Hamish said: “The entire weekend will be an incredible and appropriate celebration of the club’s success over the past 40 years.”
