Help support children affected by Chernobyl

For more than 15 years, CCLL have been bringing a group of children from the worst affected areas of the Chernobyl nuclear disaster of Belarus and Ukraine to Fife for a month long recuperative visit.

This has such a significant impact on their health and wellbeing that boosts their immune system for up to two years.

This year’s visit takes place from July 1-29.

Some take children – usually aged around 10 years old, grouped in pairs – for the full four weeks, others opt to share with another family, each hosting for a two week period.

A host family for the group leader. Families and couples can all be considered as potential hosts; the only prerequisites are a willingness to provide a caring home, a bedroom for the children to share and completion of full CRBS disclosure.

This clearance helps ensure that only suitable adults are in contact with the visiting children.

Activities are provided for the children during their stay, although there is time allocated for each host family to spend with their guests. If any local businesses can help to provide activities for the children then please get in touch.

Jacqueline Niven, who has been involved with the CCLL Fife Link for the past four years said: “We are a small group of volunteers and we are looking for new host families to help ensure this visit can go ahead. Host families provide the children with a caring home environment for the duration of their stay.

“My family have been hosting for the past 4 years and have found it to be very rewarding and many new friendships made”.
