Kirkcaldy Star Wars fan lands dream party for landmark birthday

But not only did Adam Scott celebrate the milestone, he was joined by the cast of his favourite movie – Star Wars.

Adam has a life limiting condition and as a huge Star Wars fan was granted a wish by Rays of Sunshine – a wish granting children’s charity, to have a Star Wars themed party.

Adam has missing chromosome material which has caused various health and development difficulties.

He requires a tube each night to keep his airways open while he sleeps, as well as battling with the complications of epilepsy. A consequence of which is that he has to be fully fed by gastronomy as it is no longer safe for him to eat. He has no mobilty and no speech but what he does have is a never ending love of the George Lucas franchise and all that is connected to it.

To be granted the themed party would have been enough but an online plea from Lynne for some added pizzazz elicited a phenomenal response.

Her request was picked up by Capital Sci Fi Con – a group who organises an annual science fiction and pop culture convention in aid of CHAS – and the Linton Lane Centre transformed into the Millennium Falcon for the landmark occasion.

Lynne said: “The response was unbelievable. Hundreds of people shared my post and I was getting messages from so many people sending lovely messages for Adam and offering to help out.

“The people who dressed up were amazing, they made a fantastic entrance and everyone was amazed.”

Scott Harwood, of Capital Sci-Fi Con said: “As a group, we don’t normally do parties as our costumes are screen accurate, not easy to move in, in some cases, and expensive if damaged.

“On this occasion though, we really wanted to help out. We put out a call for volunteers, and in addition to the Capital Sci-Fi Con crew, we had the Rebel Legion UK, the 501st and unconnected individuals who gave up their time to attend.

“The reaction from the kids and adults as we entered was outstanding, and Adam’s excitement was clearly evident. The party was brilliant and definitely made it all worthwhile! And then there was the hokey kokey...”

Capital Sci Fi Con is an annual science fiction and pop culture convention in Edinburgh to raise funds for the Children’s Hospice Association Scotland, and was started by Keith Armour. At the first two day event in February they raised over £37,500. The next event will be in Meadowbank Sports Centre, Edinburgh in February.
